LECTURE BY CURATOR PAUL SCHIMMEL PAINTING THE VOID DESTROY THE PICTURE?
Paul Schimmel is one of the most significant contemporary curators in the United States today. As the former Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Schimmel organized seminal shows by artists such as Chris Burden and Gerhard Richter, and produced new scholarship through his shows Hand-Painted Pop and Helter Skelter.

ART FAIR AT LAUMEIER
Art Fair at Laumeier is a great way to celebrate your mom! This nationally acclaimed fine art and craft fair boasts more than 15,000 visitors. At this annual event, which is held over Mother’s Day weekend, attendees can choose from a variety of beautiful, original works of art created by 150 artists from across the country. In addition to the creative artwork, scrumptious food and drink from a variety of vendors is available. You also can enjoy exciting music and entertainment throughout the weekend. Creation Location—on Saturday and Sunday—offers hands-on art activities for children and demonstrations by performing and visual artists. No pets allowed for special events.

LAUMEIER/NORTHSIDE WORKSHOP LAND SWAP
The exchange of “land” between Laumeier Sculpture Park and the Northside Workshop, located in the Old North neighborhood, launches a five-year collaboration on education programs for the two arts organizations. This symbolic swap relates to the access of green space in the neighborhood and at Laumeier. Join us as we celebrate the variety of forms, diversity of ideas and areas of outreach in which the two organizations will engage. The event includes refreshments and hands-on art activities for all ages.

COCKTAILS & CONVERSATION
HOW’D THEY DO THAT?
Ever wonder how artists make the huge sculptures they create? Or how Laumeier takes care of the artwork once its in the Park? Tour highlights of the Collection with Chief Preparator Nick Lang and Curator of Interpretation Clara Collins-Coleman to learn more about artists’ materials and artwork installation, maintenance and conservation. Refreshments will be served following the tour. Registration is requested by calling 314-615-5267.
