Art Squad / Ages 10-15 / Full Day

Experience art and nature through exploration of Laumeier's green space, woodland trails, outdoor sculptures, and creek.

This full-day art camp is designed for artists ages 10-15. Artists learn about contemporary and historical artists, interact with special guests, explore the woodland creek and trails, create unique works of art, and build friendships. Each session is structured around a specific set of materials and techniques to encourage exploration of interests through hands-on experiences. 

Ten-year-olds may register for Art Adventurers or Art Squad. Teen artists ages 13-15 may enroll in Art Squad and/or Teen Art Programs. Teen artists 16+ are welcome to inquire about Art Squad. 

Art Squad meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Art Squad is based in the indoor studios of the Kranzberg Education Lab and on the covered Carriage House deck outdoors, with some time spent inside the Aronson Fine Arts Center.

Cost: $320 / one-week session.

Art Squad Session Dates

June 9 / Portrait Sketching
Learn about different types of portraits through Contemporary Art examples.  Explore a variety of media to create your own characters or the people who inspire you the most. 

June 16 / Exploring with Paint
Experiment with a variety of painting techniques to make portraits, beautiful landscapes and unique abstract compositions. Note: We’ll be learning about and celebrating Juneteenth this session, with special guests and art projects.

June 23 / Character Design
Get inspiration from your favorite animes, mangas or movies, and use different media to create your own unique characters.

June 30 / Experimenting with 2D Design
Create unique zines, colorful prints and collages while experimenting with a variety of dry and wet media. Note: This is a 4-day session due to the holiday.The Family Art Walk will take place on Thursday July 3. See the Family Handbook for more details. Session cost is $256 for the shorter week.)

July 7 / Comic Studio
Discover your writer’s voice, use and create unique characters to tell your stories. 

July 14 / Playing with Scale
Challenge yourself to paint and create sculptures in small and large format. Use anything from watercolors to cardboard and found objects.

July 21 / Sculpting with STEAM 

Investigate Laumeier’s collection through the lens of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math, and use a variety of materials to experiment and create your own intricate sculptures.

July 28 / Custom Product Design
Use a variety of media and techniques to make cosplay accessories, stickers, buttons, pins, toys.

We proudly provide a safe and welcoming environment for all young artists. Our team includes staff with backgrounds in special education, art therapy, English language development, and more. When registering, please give details about your young artist's needs and we'll work with you to meet them.

EXTENDED DAY

Before and after care offers flexibility for families with varied schedules. Our experienced before and after care staff provide a safe, fun, and caring environment for all artists who participate. Artists enrolled in full-day programs (Art Adventurers and Art Squad) are eligible to participate in both before and after care. Artists enrolled in half-day morning programs (Little Buds) are eligible to participate in before care. Teen artists enrolled in afternoon programs (Creative Workshop Series and Anime Club) are eligible to participate in after care. Space is limited.

EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Scholarships for Art Camps and Teen Programs are available through the Laumeier Sculpture Park Education Scholarship Fund. Assistance is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed for all applicants. The application process is part of the online registration form. You do not need to supply any additional documents or information. THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PERIOD IS OPEN. For more information, please email our education team at education@laumeier.org.

Scholarships are granted on the basis of financial need and are awarded on a sliding scale. Assistance is granted regardless of race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.
